Amazing..... - DaveZ - 01-15-2015 I believe I read the keep when I was in 6th grade, 31 years ago. My dad was reading it and sounded worthwhile, may have been the first real novel I read and saw the movie when that came out. A number of years after that I saw that my dad was reading Nightworld so I read that too. Then sometime early last year I stumbled across The Keep on netflix and watched it for the hell of it. That's when I decided to read The Keep again, and thanks to my evil phone and kindle app allowing me to instantly download the next book went on to read all of The Adversary Cycle, Repairman Jack, Repairman Jack Early Years, Sibs, some of the short stories, and now on the second book of teen Jack. Quite an amazing bunch of books. FPW, I think you need to fill in the time gap between Fear City and The Tomb. Jack must have been doing something interesting during that time and with only 2 more novels to complete it seems too soon to be done with Jack. Amazing..... - somevelvetmorning - 01-15-2015 Try the entire Secret History in chronological order. It's a trip. Amazing..... - rjack_fan - 01-15-2015 :welcome: Be sure to read Black Wind too, it is a favorite of many here and ties in with the RJ series :-) Amazing..... - fpw - 01-16-2015 Welcome aboard, DaveZ. At this point I think I'll leave those years a mystery. Amazing..... - Damin J. Toell - 01-19-2015 Let's not distract Paul from writing something to fill in the years we really need to know about: in between "Demonsong" and THE KEEP. Amazing..... - fpw - 01-19-2015 Damin J. You never give up, do you? ![]() Amazing..... - Carnacki - 01-21-2015 Some more Glaeken stories would be cool. Not as interesting a character as Jack (he seems to much of a superman compared to Jack's everyman) but there have to be some crazy adventures back in the dim distant past... A book of short stories ala the best Lieber or Howard swords and sorcery? It's funny, I had a similar experience DaveZ - I remember getting my hands on The Keep as a young kid and at the time it freaked me right out. So bad I had to put it down and it wasn't until a couple years later that I came back and finished it (and loved it). The movie was weird and I remember watching it on VHS back in the 80s and not even drawing the connection to the book. I somehow missed the Jack books (blame it on lousy Australian distribution maybe) and read The Touch and one of the Colin Andrews books, maybe Implant without realising it was the same author. Read Nightland and was blown away again. It was after that I was looking for supernatural detectives and realised Repairman Jack was by the same author as all this other stuff I'd enjoyed and had to track them down (lots of special ordering). So much easier to track down related stuff now than back in the 80s when books were books. |
