Am rereading the series, trying to get all the players straight in my head (hah!) just finished Legacies, and was surprised at Jack's discomfort in the woods, as I have recently finished Secret Histories, in which he is all over the Barrens.
Oddly, this in no way detracted from the enjoyment of the story, now I have to dig up my copy of, what, is Conspiracies next?

You are correct, Conspiracies is next. I would have to revisit Legacies to even comment on Jack's discomfort in the woods.
I will say, as much nightmarish stuff he has seen in the woods growing up I don't blame the guy for feeling a bit uncomfortable.

Hm, it seems more like a continuity thing, because it seems like he's unfamiliar with the woods and feels out of his element out of the city. This is near the end of the book as he's fighting off Baker and his goons. Again, very minor, and I wouln't have noticed it except I'd just finished Secret Histories.

I'm also re-reading all the RJ books, I'm a couple of books ahead of you and currently on The Haunted Air. It's been a few years since I've read them and there's a lot I'm picking up that I either missed or didn't register at the time.
You'll find that Jack's discomfort out of the city is a recurrent theme in the next few books. I can only surmise that despite growing up 'out in the boonies', after migrating to NY and living under the radar for so long Jack now prefers the feeling of concrete and steel around him.
