Besides the fact that all the political stuff would be outdated, the best part of DKR is the way that it's a really good comic book.

That's why most movie adaptations of comic books are rubbish. If they change a lot of things to make them work as films, then the fan boys kick off and they aren't successful. If they try to keep the films as faithful as possible (Sin City) then the entire thing is pointlessly redundant.
I think that the influence of DKR has been significant enough that we don't need a filmed version. Was it Auskar that said that without a film of DKR people think of Batman as the Adam WEst version?
I disgree.
I think everyone realises that Batman is supposed to be 'dark', and I don't think that Tim Burton's Batman would have happened without DKR. Joel Schumacher took the Batman franchise in a more Adam West-esque direction and everyone reacted negatively to it.
Batman Begins took Batman back to what most people realised are his 'darker' roots and was much more successful. I think it's safe to say that the general public don't immediately associate Batman with the campy Adam West series.
In his way, the Batman is as bugfuck nuts as the Joker. But all is coolness--he's on =our= side.

I said that The Dark Knight Returns has influenced everything about The Batman that has followed it. Without The Dark Knight Returns, you wouldn't have had the more scary edgier Batman in the regular comic books, you wouldn't have had the initial Tim Burton (Tim Keaton) Batman movie and you certainly wouldn't have had the Christian Bale version in Batman Begins.
What I did say is that before anyone makes a Beyond Batman movie, there should be a legitimate The Dark Knight Returns to properly set the stage. If they can make the Transformers movie and do it well, they can certainly make a The Dark Knight Returns movie and make it much better.

I recently read and enjoyed the Batman graphic novels The Long Halloween and Dark Victory by Jeph Loeb, illustrated by Tim Sale are based upon Miller's version of events.

There is a legitimate DKR.
It's available here for about $10.
There is a real snobbery around comic books, where they are still perceived as low, unworthy art even by people who read them. I would much prefer they carried on making Batman movies with original storylines.

I was reading about the online advertising game that they building up around this film.
IBelieveInHarveyDent.com has a picture of Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent in a fake political poster.
IBelieveInHarveyDentToo.com emerged several days later and featured the same image seemingly defaced by The Joker. Each visitor could sign up and get emailed a co-ordinate, if they entered the co-ordinate at this site the image would lose a 1X1 pixel. After enough users did this, the Joker picture you linked to was revealed. This image had now been taken down, and the site appears to be blank. If you select all the page, however, you see that it isnt. . .
. . . the next website in this game is being worked on, should be good fun.

Link to pics of Ledger as the Joker. They aren't the best of all time, but you can see what he will be looking like. I sorta like it. He looks pretty dark.

I was responding to a question from another poster about their wish for a Batman Beyond movie. Batman Beyond is a half-hour animated television program about a new Batman in the future who has an elderly Bruce Wayne as a mentor.
If it were to be filmed, to properly set the scene for that movie (Batman Beyond), I stated there should first be a The Dark Knight Returns movie. I thought that was important to show Batman (Bruce Wayne) aging.
To explain what I meant about The Dark Knight Returns (for those people unfamiliar with the comic books), I launched into a quick explanation of the influence of The Dark Knight Returns, by Frank Miller -- the comic book and graphic novel. That's why I underlined it in my original post, to differentiate between written material (which is designated in grammar by underlining) from any potential movie or television titles.

If you ever show an aged Bruce Wayne, most members of the audience would be happy to assume that at some point he had been aging.

It's very simple, Auskar. Don't skim this next bit and I doubt you'll misinterpret what I'm saying: There already is a legitimate The Dark Knight Returns. For someone who seems to know so much about comics you don't seem to have much faith in them.
