Another thing sound effects people like to recycle is firearm sounds.

From Mel Gibsons THE PATRIOT, to TOMBSTONE, to QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER, they always get firearm sounds wrong.

Listen to the sound the rifle makes when Quigley works the action on his Sharps Model 1874 -- clickety-ratchet-click when he opens the action, clickety-ratchet-click when he closes the action.

The real Sharps makes almost no sound when the action is opened, and just a small metallic snap when the action is closed -- this snap is caused by the trigger-guard/lever hitting the lower tang on the frame.

Guns in movies also make that oily-ratchety-clinking sound when they are picked up, put down or moved around.

Are handguns in particular really this loosely fitted together? They always sound like they're about to fall apart. :nonod:

Hey thanks! Rent the film and listen to the soundtrack carefully just before the battle-you'll hear it pretty clear!

I'm glad everyone liked it. I am going to have to rewatch "Gladiator" for the Zulu chant, thanks.Smile

I remember it . . . from all those Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan movies.

Funny thing: that call is used in a Bazillion African jungle scenes, and the actual bird is the Australian Kookaburra.

First time I heard is the original "TARZAN THE APE MAN" and "TRADER HORN". God knows I've heard it in enough 'Jungle Jim' movies/tv show!

LOL!!! I don't mean to laugh, because I know what you're talking about. But for some reason, I picture you flapping your arms in the air while making that noise. Big Grin

Wasn't there something about the "Tarzan" yell when it comes down to the series? (remember the old black and white series) IIRC it had something to do with them (the producers) combining a bunch of sounds together, but before the series was done, he'd learned to mimic it himself?:dontknow:
