Monsters aren't the exception on Nocturnia, they're the rule. In fact, they rule: Each monster type has its own country and government and culture. Humans are a very persecuted minority in Nocturnia – those who aren't slaves are food.
Our first Nocturnia novel, Definitely Not Kansas, tells of how Emma and Ryan were snatched from their lives in Kansas and transported to this frightening and dangerous new world, where even the flowers have a taste for human blood. "Secret Ingredient" takes place shortly after the events of Definitely Not Kansas, around the beginning of the second novel, Family Secrets.
