This guy is good. I'm still waiting for Virgin, so off to comic book land I go and he's a writer that has jumped to the head of the class. Just yesterday I tore through trade editions of Ex Machina and Runaways. Awhile back I enjoyed Y: Last Man Standing by him.

Ex Machina: The First Hundred Days tells the story, very cleverly, of how Mitchell Hundred was given super powers through an explosion, his rise as a superhero and then his eventual election as mayor after he prevents a major catastrophe. Exceptional artwork from Tony Harris pushes this title into must reading territory for me.

I liked it so much I jumped right into Runaways, co-created with Adrian Alphona. Runaways is about the kids of a supervillian cabal who endure each others presence at their parents annual gathering. During the latest get together, the kids accidently discover the truth about their parents and decide to try to stop them. Not as juvenile as it sounds.

It wasn't until I read the author bio that I recalled he had written Y: Last Man Standing. I thought the premise of a mysterious plague killing off all males except Yorick Brown was better than the execution, but I only read the first four issues and I do see it has garnered all sorts of critical acclaim.
