Repairman Jack Graphic Novels

As a fan of Darwyn Cooke's Graphic Novel adaptations of the great Richard Stark's Parker novels, I was curious to know why there hasn't been any Repairman Jack Graphic Novels? It seems like a no-brainer. RJ's Universe is seemingly a perfect fit for the medium. I could think of a host of great comic artists who could do justice to Jack's world.

It would be a huge treat for us already familiar with Jack, and it'd also bring a lot of comic fans who weren't familiar with FPW or Jack into the mix. Win-win situation, no?

Any opinions, for those familiar with the medium, of what comic artists you would most like to see tackle Jack?

I have the first young jack comic/graphic novel but I prefer the books. To each their own but not a fan of them and plus I like to picture everything in my head my way. Jack is my hero and even more so because of the way I portray him in my own head.

I vaguely remember reading about the Young Jack comic when I first discovered the books earlier this year. I'll have to check that out. I like to picture Jack in my own way as well, particularly nondescript (is that an oxymoron?). He's the type of dude you pass in the Mall, Supermarket, etc., everyday and hardly notice. No bulging muscles, no pretty-boy features. But I would be open to seeing how a really good illustrator envisions him in a Graphic Novel, as long as he doesn't stray too far from what's been established in the books.

That's one of the things that worries me about a RJ film; I just know Hollywood is going to try to pump Jack up so he resembles a cross between Stallone and Brad Pitt. I'd rather not even see a film adaptation if the Producers are going to ignore what FPW has already clearly established.

I hate to say it and this is coming from one of fpw and jacks BIGGEST FANS EVER but I hope they never make a movie and butcher my hero and his story

Definitely! This is awesome! I'm going to write IDW (the folks who do the Parker Graphic Novels) first!

IDW has been contacted. I wrote them Jack is one of the most engaging and iconic characters in fiction, and needs to be adapted into the Graphic Novel medium. Any fans out there who agree, please follow suit. If you have a favorite comics publisher, write them. Here's IDW's email.

Don't know how much of an impact it'll have, but it can't hurt. This idea is such a no-brainer it's a joke. Seriously, the Parker Graphic Novels by Darwyn Cooke are hugely successful, and of course I love that because I love Richard Stark and Parker, but really, Jack is so much more suited for the comics medium it's a joke!

Yeah, I'll buy anything Jack-related. If the Graphic Novels are done well, I think you may change your mind. I hate to keep repeating myself, but you should check out Darwyn Cooke's Graphic Novels adaptations of Richard Stark's Parker novels. They're prime examples of a comic artist adapting a novel and really doing a bang-up job.

Plus, in addition to my selfish reason of wanting to see Jack Graphic Novels for the sheer pleasure of it, I love the idea of new folks who aren't yet fans of FPW coming to the books via the Graphic Novels. Upon discovering The Tomb, I knew I was going to be a huge Jack and FPW fan and each subsequent book just cements that opinion further--FPW is just an unbelievably talented writer. I want as many people as possible to discover what we already know.

The nice thing is that IDW already knows FPW; they handled The Keep adaptation. And it could hasten the movie along if Hollywood finds out its based on a comic(it seems one of the more surefire ways to get a movie produced hese days).

As far as artists for any adaptations I can't think of any off the top of my head but I know I wouldn't want Cooke doing it. I'm a big fan of his, I just read The Score yesterday and loved it and I like pretty much anything he's done that I'm aware of but his artwork is a bit too cartoony for what I'd like to see out of an adaptation personally. I like Gabriel Rodriguez's work on Locke and Key a lot and I think the artwork for a book called The Darkness by Dave Wohl and others is the look I have in mind. Maybe Tim Sale?
