So I finally found a used book store in my area. They seem to be going extinct due to all the online used book stores. Browsing around an actual store is so much more fun than clicking links on a website.

I wound up buying The Select, Nightkill, Mirage (all fpw of course :D ) and They Thirst by Robert McCammon (mostly due to ALowerDeep's recommendation, so it had better be good ;) ).

If any of you locals (Scott Hajek, etc.) are interested, drop me a line and I can get you the location. It is in McHenry, but there is an affiliated one in Crystal Lake.

I LOVE Crystal Lake! Isn't that where that camp is where my buddy Jason hangs out?

That is Camp Crystal Lake (though I have never seen any of the Friday the 13th movies), this is the city of Crystal Lake. It is still pretty nice, though it is pretty much one big strip mall.

Crap, now I gotta figure out what I did with the business cards.
I'll post them when I find them.

Hey, you're also in Illinois. Ever been to the Half-Price Bookstore in Indy? It's right next to another jewel of a store: Luna Music.

Great store with an absolutely incredible selection (most of the time). Just don't actually bring books there to sell--they'll yank down your trousers and give you some prison love.

At 28, I'm not looking forward to anything "senior," but I'd hate to remain a "junior" as well. I'm told that one stays young forever, but that the body plays catch-up. Then again my nephews think I'm old. Worrying about these things is going to make me old before my time, I think.

Wrinkled Pages
1007 N. Front St.
McHenry, IL 60050

Kep's Paperback
61 N. Williams St.
Crystal Lake, IL 60014
815-459-4343

I went to Kep's in Crystal Lake today after work. I didn't think they had as good of a selection as the McHenry store. Kep's had a lot more of the normal used bookstore fare like romance novels and westerns and such. Wrinkled seemed to have more fiction, horror, and Sci-Fi type stuff. Also, neither place has a great selection of hardcover books; they focus mainly on paperback.

In the Elgin area there are two used book stores and one temporary "Giant Book Sale" store.

One of the used books stores is the typical, some hardcover, mostly paperback, and an odd credit scheme. The other is all hardcover (with some trade paperbacks). The pricing is about the same as the remainder or bargain books found at B&N and Borders.

The "Giant Book Sale" is the remainder-type sale in a former store-front (in this case, a Zany Brainy). I found signed copies of "Cross Dressing" by Bill Fitzhugh, "Hard Rain" by Barry Eisler, and a David Ellis book. They only had "Mirage", but I have seen other FPW books at other stores.

Where are the bookstores in Elgin? I lived there for about 4 years and the only used store I knew of was on St Charles/Rt25/Bluff City Blvd and it closed.

In Japan all around, we can find used book stores "Book off". If I want to find any books, I always go to "Book off". Today I went to "Book off Omiya storte" (Omiya is one of cities in Saitama prefecture). And I bought.........

John Saul;Sleep Walk, Black Lightning
Dan Simmons;Summer of Night
Clive Barker;Weave World
Robert B. McCammon;Mine

I couldn't find out those books in ordinary book stores. So I was glad to go to there.
