WORLDCON (Glasgow, Scotland) - August 4-8

Lisa or Susan,
I'm a smidge confused - what else is new...
The above conference is in Scotland. That's not the conference around which you guys will be planning GU 5, right?
Will there be an FPW conference for the GU 5 in England? Or just a marvelous vacation like we had in Disney World?
WORLD FANTASY CONVENTION (Madison, WI) November 3-6
http://www.worldfantasy.org/2005/
For the above conference in Madison, is the plan (whoever is planning this) to stay at the same hotel as the conference?
Just curious, as I need to budget.
Thanks, everyone, or thanks to whomever will be answering this.

The only GU centered around a Con was GU3. To my knowledge, GU5 follows the trend of GU1, GU2 and GU4 in which it's just a social get-together.

Thanks, Marc. Any idea when? 2005 or 2006?

I just checked out the web site for the World Fantasy Convention and I'm sure we could find cheaper hotel rates without even getting far from downtown. There's lots of options within walking distance and, like I mentioned, I have coupons. I'd be happy to reserve a block of rooms at an area hotel, if I have an idea of who is planning to need a room. Most of the time you can't book for a private event more than six months ahead of time, so in the next month or so I could get that done. Otherwise, the Concourse looks like a beautiful hotel (I've never been there).
So, who is coming to Madison in November and may need a hotel?

I will most likely be coming. I live in Woodstock, IL (fairly close to the border), so I might not stay in a hotel. Would anyone be planning on attending the actual conference?

If I come I will be doing so to attend the WFC in addition to meeting all you good people from the board. And what's this about a hotel, I thought we were all gonna crash at Stacy's new house?
You know I'm kidding about crashing at your house.

I would like to go, since I seem to have become addicted (in the best way possible!) to GU'ers. But I also want to go to London, whenever that event will take place. So I need to pace myself financially and figure out how much each event will cost. If the cost for getting to and from Madison is exorbitant, then I may have to forgo it in favor of getting to London.
So, for Madision, I would need a hotel room for as few nights as possible. I'm not sure about attending the conference. I wonder if FPW has any thoughts on that. Is it worth paying for the conference. What would we ordinary, non-writing GU'er's get out of it?
Thanks, Marc. Any idea when? 2005 or 2006?
If you're talking about GU's, I think Lisa mentioned spring/summer 2006 for GU5 (in London) and 2007 GU6 in Boston. After that it probably will come down to holding GU8 on in places previous attendees live (e.g. New York). No promises however... Lisa and Susan coordinate these things.

OK, that's great to know about London. I've got lots of time to save up, which means I should be able to swing Madison in November!
Would you be going to Madision, Marc?
We're looking at late spring for the next GU, so say April or May (probably the latter). We don't want to have it in high summer (more $$), but we don't want to do it in the winter either since we're talking London and Boston.

I'd probably go for at least a day. Madison is only a 2.5 hr drive for me and I have friends that live in the area so it would work out. Don't know if I'd do the convention but the possibility exists.

Sooner or later then, we have to go to FPW's neck of the woods. May I suggest the Pine Barrens? We could look for the Last Rakosh, Scarlip. :D

What do you mean kidding? I already started making room for all the air mattresses! :p I'm really looking forward to meeting everybody! This is going to be fun. ;)
