Had a great time with these 20 fledgling writers. A very rewarding experience. I think they learned a lot from the 4 instructors -- but more important: they think they learned a lot.

At least that's what they told me.

Forum regulars Matthew Smith and Cyberjack were there. Maybe they can chime in on the experience.

Matt Warner will be doing an article on it for Hellnotes. If you want a free trial subscription, see the following:

I don't even know where to begin!

The weekend was intensely rewarding on several levels. Paul and the other instructors (Tom Monteleone, David Morrell, and Richard Chizmar) were all extremely generous with their time and insight into our work. The wealth of knowledge and experience I left the workshop with is immeasurable. It was a difficult workshop, and I left on Sunday afternoon bleary-eyed and a bit overwhelmed, but I also left energized and eager to get back to work!

I was pleasantly surprised by the high level of competency that all of the attendees posessed as well. Not only did everyone receive advice and guidance from the four instructors, but from nineteen very talented peers.

Brian Keene and Geoff Cooper (sp?) were also there for part of the weekend, and Elizabeth Monteleone ran the entire show with expertise and class.

I think Borderlands Press is probably going to do this next year, and if you are an aspiring writer, you owe it to yourself to try to get into this. I guarantee you will not be disappointed, and you'll be a better writer. I think all twenty of the attendees would agree with me.

Thanks again Paul, its nice to have you looking over my shoulder!

Sounds like the weekend was a hit. What a great thing for both the teachers and the students.

It was an absolutely amazing experience. Thanks to FPW and all of the other instructors. I would definitely recommend the program to anyone interested in a writing career. And they gave me a diploma. Finally, something I can hang in my office and look halfway professional. My high school diploma was getting lonely.

They just announced on the Shocklines message board that Borderlands Press was going to do another one next year, so keep an eye out.

I had an absolutely wonderful time, as the Hellnotes (http://hellnotes.com/) article on Feb. 3 will show. It was a privilege to learn craft from FPW firsthand, and I hope to do it again.

Matthew, I'm having trouble finding your website--and your fan club. What are the URLs? Thanks.

Matthew Warner discusses one of our Boot Camp sessions in his latest Horror World column (www.horrorworld.org/columns.htm). He also posted an audio clip of the discussion we had about sound effects. If anyone cares, the manly-sounding guy talking about comic books is yours truly.
