Question for the admin or someone familiar with this board's code:

Usually when I come to the board I use the New Posts link to see what new posts have been added since I was here last time (obviously). Here is what happens. I'll click on the link and there will be 5, 10, however many new posts listed. As I start going through them I just come back to the New Posts link to see which ones I still need to get to. The problem is that soon when I go back to the New Post links, they all have disappeared and I haven't had a chance to read all the new links. With all the posts and threads it is almost impossible to find them now.

Is there a time limit to the New Posts link? Can it be set higher? How does this link work and what can be done, if anything to correct, this slight, though annoying (to me anyway :)) problem?

That drives me crazy Jimbo. I was going to ask the same thing. It seems like I have about five to ten minutes to get back to the "New Posts" before I have to start using the back button. I sometimes open the site in two windows and while I'm writing a post I will hit the "new posts" button every couple of minutes on the other open window.

The real issue for me is that I sometimes don't have time to read all the new posts and would love to be able to mark unread posts so I can get back to them at a later time. What winds up happening is I usually read all the posts instead of doing my work and it screws up the rest of my day. I have started skipping the board for days at a time so that I can get my work done. But then it takes me three or four hours to get through all the new posts when I finally get back here.

You just gotta be quick, Jim. I believe the time clock starts once you access the board, not just the new posts link.

I usually access the main forum page, look to see what forums have new posts, open those forums to see which threads have been added to and note the times of the posts before I actually read any new posts so I at least have some idea of what was posted when.

In RIK's case that method will probably be a bit more problematic. Good luck devising a plan.

I had the same issues and this is the solution that I found works best for me.

First, I'm using IE. After I click on New Posts, I keep that window open and then right click each thread and choose the "Open in New Window" option. Then after I read that thread I close that window and I still have the original window open unchanged. I'm pretty sure that functionality exists in most if not all browsers.

This would not solve RIKs problem either though. No ideas on that one.
